This role is located in Toronto, but will work closely with the London, UK office and also with the AD in Toronto. The Account Director will lead and build an Account, Creative and Planning team responsible for the management and delivery of exemplary integrated marketing campaigns that best suit the client’s needs. The Account Director will also develop this piece of business, creating and implementing plans for expanding its scope.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the National launch of ground breaking new merchandising for the client
- Works with the client’s Brand and Merchandising teams to develop a yearlong strategic in store brand campaign to support the national launch of a major new category to the business.
- Delivers a variety of other strategic projects such as loyalty/gifting programs, retail design briefs, customer journey analysis etc.
- Oversees the national promotional calendar campaigns and tactical programs. Identifies strategic opportunities for growth of this new piece of business, including branding & promotional opportunities .
- Develops strong partnerships with the Client & Client’s roster of agencies.
- Works with some of North America & Europe’s leading food photographers to create award winning food photography that inspires decision making.
- Responsible for building a team in Toronto
- Develop a strong relationship with Client’s Partners (across multiple levels and multiple countries).
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of retail POS in order to apply insight and understanding to positively impact the business
- Develop strong partnerships with our core suppliers, (e.g. Digital POS)
- Leads and inspires the creative and account teams to ensure consistent, timely and excellent delivery of projects.
- Work in partnership with Planning to create insights that drive creative excellence.
- Ensures correct resources are available for ongoing projects and allocates projects according to experience.
- Provides creative and strategic marketing input to client presentations
- Represents the agency at client meetings.
- Conducts post project reviews and evaluation on all relevant projects to ascertain future project potential.
- Responsible for managing and reporting day-to-day costs of projects through effective financial planning and management.
- Identifies and leverage’s all additional revenue opportunities within existing client base.
- Identifies and leverage’s additional revenue opportunities from within Client’s supplier base.
- Works with “The Agency’s” Planners, Research Agencies, Client’s Business Intelligence Team and our Marketing Clients to drive the development of strategic initiatives within and outside of the Marketing Calendar.
- Effectively communicates across the team, maintaining a motivating and positive environment and ensuring outstanding team work.
- Is engaged in and supports the brand planning and calendar planning processes
- Works closely with New Business Team in the identification, development and implementation of proactive value-adding projects delivered for our marketing clients.
- Manages and develops direct report in line with the agency’s performance management methods.
- Plays a broader role across the client service team in coaching and development of all team members.
- Identifies and leverage’s all additional revenue opportunities within existing Client base.
Required Skills and Competencies
- 2+ years as an Account Director in an agency environment with a good understanding of the retail sector
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Able to think strategically and is a solutions-focused thinker with broad industry knowledge
- Excellent presentation skills (writing and delivering)
- Good time management, people and project management skills
- Able to express ideas with clarity, confidence and logical reasoning
- Excellent team leadership and line management skills; a strong team player with a belief in coaching and team empowerment for success
- Strong communication skills
- Experience of working on large scale merchandising and photography projects is an asset
- Strong client facing skills and the ability to communicate with confidence
- Highly motivated and highly organized with an ability to work independently, under tight deadlines and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Creative thinker – with a proven track record in delivering innovation
- Knowledge of retail market
- Experience working with blue chip clients
