Surety Underwriter – FILLED

Reporting to the Surety Manager of Canada, you will assume responsibility for providing superior service as well as contributing to the achievement of profitability and production goals while underwriting contract and commercial surety accounts in accordance with company underwriting guidelines.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Underwriting of contract and commercial surety new business and renewals
  • Maintaining standards of service in business processing.
  • Ordering of financial information, references, and other underwriting information for use in your analysis of risk assessment and decision-making.
  • Negotiating the terms and conditions of risk acceptance with brokers
  • Developing and maintaining positive broker relations.
  • Provide mentoring and referral support to junior staff
  • Frequent direct communication with contractors, lawyers and various Obligees across Canada
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with regards to individual accounts and tendering activity
  • Conduct broker, contractor and site visits.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or a college diploma or the CIP designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year Surety underwriting experience
  • Experience in interpreting legal contracts
