Manager External Communications needed – Toronto

Summary

As a senior member of the Corporate Communications team, the Manager, External Communications is responsible for the development of external communications programs and materials on numerous corporate initiatives. Supports the Vice President of Corporate Communications in his role as the main media spokesperson on all matters related to the activities of ING Canada and its subsidiaries. Provides communications support to the Senior Management Team, the communications specialists in the business units and the ING Foundation.

Accountabilities

• Participate in the development of a reputation management program for ING Canada and its subsidiaries.
• Support the Senior Management Team of ING Canada in the development of external communications programs on corporate initiatives, including identifying the issues, developing communications strategies and tactics, and writing/ editing the communications material pertaining to these programs (i.e. backgrounders, presentations, governmental submissions, announcements, press releases etc.).
• Support the development of an effective media and public relations program. Research, write, edit and distribute all ING Canada and its affiliates press releases and announcements, including quarterly results. Organize media interviews, briefings and press conferences as directed and research media queries in a timely manner.
• Coordinate and support the media relations activities of the various business units, including providing guidance and support as required.
• Responsible for the development, writing and editing of speeches, presentations, announcements, articles and other documents.
• Provide communications support to the Senior Management Team and the communications specialists in the business units.

QUALIFICATIONS
• University degree with 5-8 years in corporate communications/public relations capacity within insurance or financial corporate environment
• Experience in issue management and the development and implementation of corporate communications programs and activities
• Experience in media relations for a public company
• Excellent research, analytical and writing skills
• Articulate and persuasive in dealing with media and internal clients
• Fluency in both English and French as asset
